Because all the data in the world can’t help if it makes no sense

At Coveo, our teams of data analysts and machine learning transfer, analyze and manage billions of events generated by the usage of our solution, making it an informational gold mine for us and our customers. The only problem? Giving it all a practical and useful sense!

And here comes the Business Intelligence Analyst. The main tasks of this person rests on optimizing business metrics and help their communication through our dashboards. That’s why we’re looking for someone who is data-savvy, that can analyze and dig the informations at hand, highlights the big (or the small and noteworthy!) trends and presents them in a clear and self-explanatory way.

The subtle signs you might be up for the part: in your projects, you’re always the go-to person to extract data and explain what they mean to others. Not only that, but you sometimes judges graphs in some articles with critics like “The scaling on that axis really exaggerates the trend for nothing, they really could have dropped it by a decimal!”. Sounds like you? We’d like to have a chat with you!

Your mission: Use the ressources at your disposal (Tableau, our database, your colleagues and your global vision) to tell the story behind our customer’s data.

For example: The commerce website of a customer of ours converts more sales lately than ever! The UI has been optimized lately, and we would like to know which change had the most impact for the users. The customer claims that it’s because of the new layout, which really showcases the range of colors available on his merchandise, but would like to have some data-driven proof of that.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will also be involved in the development and iterations of our features, working along the R&D team to find the best solutions for our customer’s needs. Mid/Long-term, we would like to have a whole team dedicated to making our data speak.

There are no “typical” days, but here’s an example of what a work day might look like:

  • Your favorite hot beverage in hand, you start your day at 8am (or 6:30am or 9: it’s up to you!). One of our Data scientists left you a little message on Slack to inform you that he finished adjusting his model according to the data you wanted to track at one of our major customers.
  • You join a call to share feedback from a customer on a data they started monitoring at your request for the 2 previous quarters. It seems like they discovered a clear trend and correlation between two elements, and will be able to leverage it at their advantage.
  • You take some time off to refill your beverage, and read the latest Stephen Few’s blog article: you find his work inspiring, and his opinion on the recent use of statistics in the actual pandemic’s context brings you to think about your own projects.
  • You then spend some time with a major customer to help them orient their usage of our product, and support the Customer success team by bringing tangible fact to prove that some of our latest features implemented on their commerce page is making a difference! (of course, they would like to see more new visitors to their website, but you show them that the number of recurring visitors is on a clear rise. It’s a very good sign!)
  • Beginning of the afternoon, you meet the team leads of the Development teams to discuss different trends in the market of Commerce. You arrange a Roundtable discussion to have them discuss them, and have their input on how we could bring this in our ongoing projects
  • You finish your day on Tableau, your head full of ideas for the dashboard you are preparing for the Commerce team

You have a good vision and sense of analytics?

To be the ideal Business Intelligence Analyst, you need to be especially skilled in collecting information, be a strong strategist and have some basic knowledge of databases and machine learning to work along a top-tier team. What are we looking for in our ideal candidate:

  • A strong interest in top edge technologies
