Step 2 - Perform First Time Setup

During the initial setup, you are required to enter most of the parameters required by Coveo Expresso. Once completed, the index is created and you will be able to start populating it with content. All of the settings specified in the initial setup, except for the path of the index, can be modified later, using the Administration Tool via the Settings tab. To modify the index location, you must delete the index manually and re-execute the Initial Setup.

A pre-filled form will be displayed with information obtained from the Active Directory for the account running the installation. Click Clear if the information is not valid and you want to start over. Before clicking on Continue, please review the following sections:

1. Enter Activation Key

After filling the Expresso download form on Coveo's web site, an email was sent to you containing an activation key. This key must be entered to complete the installation and activate Expresso.

2. Set Index File Location

The administrator must specify the location of the index. By default, Coveo Expresso selects the drive with the most free disk space. The Index and other data files will occupy approximately 50% of the original documents. Average document size varies a lot, but if you cannot estimate the original size of the documents you will index, a rough estimate is that the average size of an email is 30 KB, thus 100,000 emails will require about 1.5 gigabytes of hard disk for the index. It is highly recommended to allow at least twice your estimated size to allow the index to grow as your needs increase.

3. Outbound Email Server

Coveo Expresso sends emails to end-users to support them in installing the Desktop Integration Package, along with the URL of the Web UI and a link to download the BlackBerry MIDlet. In the Outbound Email Server section, specify the address of the SMTP server to use, as well as the email address to use as the sender of these emails.

If required, specify a custom TCP port, as well as credentials. It is also recommended that the SMTP settings be tested using the Send Test Email button to ensure that emails be sent to the appropriate address. If the SMTP information is not valid, it will not be possible to provision users and deploy the Desktop Integration package.

4. Alerting Service

In the Alerting Service section, enter the email address of the system administrator. If an important system error occurs on the Coveo Expresso server, the system automatically sends an email to alert the administrator of the situation.

Once all sections have been completed and reviewed, click on Continue to go to the Welcome page.
