Ping Home and Licenses

What is the Ping Home process?

The Ping Home process automatically occurs every night, between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. During the Ping Home, the following information is exchanged between your installation of Coveo Expresso, and Coveo's web server:

  • A new license — Licenses expire after 7 days. If no successful Ping Home occurs within this period of time, your installation of Coveo Expresso will be disabled. A disabled installation is re-enabled as soon as a successful Ping Home is completed
  • Usage statistics — Usage statistics are transmitted to Coveo. These statistics comprise the number of queries per day, the number of documents per repository type, the number of mobile users, the number of desktop search users, etc. None of the transmitted information allows for the identification of end-users.
  • Messages — Coveo Expresso's Web Service transmits messages to be displayed in the Administration Tool. There are three zones where these messages can be displayed. The main zone is the Help Center (in the left column).
