All servers related to the same index (i.e. main,
mirror, slice and front-end)—starting with the main or back-end server—must be upgraded
to SP4. Note that indexes are compatible for all service packs, therefore collections,
sources and parameters remain identical.
Important: During the update process—which
usually takes 5 to 10 minutes per server—it is impossible to query the index or
add sources to it.
Important: CES creates a backup of the
files whose addresses correspond to <installation
path>/Web/* and <installation
path>/Instance/* (except for Web/Admin/*,
Web/Bin/*, Web/Coveo/Help/*, Web/Coveo/CoveoDesktopSearch_en.bin
and Web/Coveo/CoveoDesktopSearch_fr.bin).
However, if the path of any of these files has been modified or the
Web.config files of an SPS 2003 or WSS
2.0 environment have been edited, a manual backup is required:
1.
Create a folder named SP3backup
on the local drive (right-click and select New>Folder).
2.
Locate the file to backup. By default, the Web and Instance files
are located in C:\Program
Files\Coveo Enterprise Search 4; whereas the Web.config files are located in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\web.config.
3.
Right-click the file and select
Copy.
4.
In SP3backup, right-click and select Paste.
The following procedure must be repeated for each
server, starting with the main or back-end server.
1. Log onto the server using an administrator account.
2. On the local drive, download the installation program.
3. Double-click the file to launch Windows Installer and follow the procedure.
4. When asked whether to backup the files or not, enter the path of a target folder and click Yes.
5. Once the update is complete, copy all manually backed up files to their original locations (folder structure is identical in SP3 and SP4).
