The new paradigm in enterprise search, Coveo uses leading technology to ensure users receive the most accurate and relevant results each time a search is conducted. With rapid access to the valuable content stored in company repositories, users can better leverage internal information to be both more efficient and effective in their work.

Query language

When conducting a search, Coveo Enterprise Search can suggest spelling corrections based on indexed content. The solution also uses a custom thesaurus to find synonyms and expand search queries to ensure the greatest number of relevant results.

The solution also works with advanced query operators, such as Boolean, Search by word proximity, Wildcard operators, Search by range, and Relative operators.

For developers and administrators, Coveo provides the sought-after ability to easily access the user query from the built-in interfaces before it is submitted to the search engine, which gives them all the latitude they need to further process the query (for instance, performing a query expansion using an external taxonomy).

Ranking results

Coveo Enterprise Search features strong out-of-box ranking, with more than 25 predefined ranking criteria. However, the solution can dynamically apply new ranking algorithms, customized by the administrator to meet user needs. For specific tasks where more refinements are required, we provide the tools for users to add their own ranking rules.

With Coveo Enterprise Search, the user can include any custom ranking bias on documents, based on sources, and can also fine-tune the weight of the title, date, concept match, frequency and +10 others criteria in the ranking calculation or use optimized out-of-the-box values. Using the “Top result" function, administrators can select a specific result to rank highest for a certain query.

Document pipeline

Coveo Enterprise Search features a simple, web-based UI for easy administration. It also emails alerts to report important system events and schedules automatic maintenance tasks. Coveo’s API allows for the custom development of administration functions and their integration into external systems.

  • Identifies the right document title or select the most appropriate one based on its text
  • Generates query spelling dictionaries
  • Prepares document excerpts
  • Generates light HTML-viewable versions of documents
  • Maps securities of access control lists
  • Extracts concepts, summaries and metadata
The document pipeline also allows administrators to intervene in the process with the use of pre- and post conversion application programming interfaces (API). Using this access in the document conversion pipeline, it is easy to add additional processing such as named entity extraction, text categorization and retrieval of metadata from an external source. From there the user can modify the title, content and metadata that will be indexed.

Concept and summary extraction

Coveo Enterprise Search provides a list of concepts that are relevant when retrieving a sought after document. The solution automatically extracts a document summary comprising the most significant sentences found within the material, which allows users to quickly identify its content. The data is also used in the ranking algorithms to improve relevance of search results.
