Frequently Asked Questions

What is Coveo Expresso?

Coveo Expresso, powered by the Coveo Enterprise Search 6.0 search platform, is a free information access solution designed to allow users to search through corporate emails, SharePoint, network file servers and desktop files from their mobile device or desktop.

Coveo Expresso's MIDlet, designed for BlackBerry devices, enhances the search experience by providing added functionalities such as transparent security integration, reply and forward functionalities from the search, and deployment from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).

Coveo Expresso also packages an Outlook Sidebar that enables users to search from Outlook and provides contextual information about the selected email in Outlook.

Finally, Coveo Expresso also provides a 'floating' Search Bar, which opens on top of any open program to let users easily search content from their desktop.

What kind of support is provided?

Since Coveo Expresso is a free product, it is supported via this self-service online help and documentation. As a Coveo Expresso user, you are entitled to one free support incident. Further incidents will require the purchase of a support plan. Please visit the Expresso Support page for details.

How can I index my colleagues' mailboxes if I don't have an Exchange user account with sufficient privileges?

In Coveo Expresso beta, you must configure an Exchange server in order to provision users. This limitation can be worked around by entering invalid information, but will result in an indexing error and an invalid status, marked by a red dot next to the user name. Despite this, it will be possible to index Desktop content, including the mailbox via Outlook, by right-clicking on the Desktop Integration Package icon in the system tray and selecting Options. In the Outlook Indexing tab, select Index all items and select the default MAPI profile or another MAPI profile if required. The mailbox of this user will then be indexed.

Note: Outlook must be opened and the user must be connected for the mailbox to be indexed. New emails will not be indexed as they arrive on the Exchange server unless the user is connected.

How many SharePoint documents can be indexed?

Coveo Expresso is free up to 50,000 SharePoint documents. To purchase a license capable of handling more documents, please visit the Coveo Expresso Upgrade Plans page.

You can also upgrade to Coveo Enterprise Search, which offers a lot more functionality, such as connectivity to email archives (Symantec Enterprise Vault, Quest Archive Manager), other email systems (IBM Lotus Notes), databases, CMS systems, CRM (Salesforce.com), portals, wikis (Confluence), Web, Novell Netware, etc., specialized search interfaces and solutions (Investigation, Customer Service, Information Publishing), customized ranking, advanced language support, etc.

How many emails can be indexed?

How many desktop documents can be indexed for a single user?

There is no limit on the number of documents that can be indexed by an individual user. The only limit is the total number of documents (1,000,000 documents). Users can determine what to index on their desktop by right-clicking on the Coveo Desktop Intregration Package icon in the System Tray, and selecting Options. The File Indexing and Outlook Indexing tabs determine what content will be indexed through the Desktop Connector. IT administrators can enforce settings by creating a GPO configuration.

How can I limit the number of desktop documents that an individual user can index?

Administrators determine who in the organization will have the right to index desktop files on the server. Once a user is provisioned, only the user can determine which files will be indexed via the Options link of the Search Bar (Notification Area of Windows).

How many users can use the software?

There is no limit on the number of users that can search indexed File Shares and SharePoint documents using the Web UI. However, up to 50 users can be provisioned. These users can install the Desktop Integration Package (allowing them to index their desktop documents and providing a Search Bar and Outlook Sidebar), index their Exchange mailboxes and install the BlackBerry MIDlet.
